The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement follows a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he officially joins us on the specified date.

His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

Experience of the New Head

Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling step forward on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or supported systems, but fans can anticipate additional details as development progresses.
